Islamabad: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan is his favourite, but he remains worried about his future.
Speaking in a primetime television programme, Prime Minister Gilani said Monday that he is afraid that the “old players” who are joining PTI will sideline Imran Khan.
Gilani explained that the players who are joining PTI are candidates for the post of Prime Minister, not Foreign Minister.
“Imran Khan is my favourite in the general sense… but I’m worried that he does not face what happened with Mian Azhar” Gilani said.
Prime Minister said that Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) was feeling threatened by PTI, therefore, it wants to be viewed as the real opposition party against the Pakistan Peoples Party.
“They [PML-N] want to be in the government and they want to be in the opposition as well,” Gilani said.
When asked about results of a recent survey which terms PTI as the most popular national party, Gilani said “it is good that they are getting a chance”, but popularity of a party is gauged by its performance in the elections and the extent to which its manifesto is implemented.
“We have implemented 80% of our manifesto,” Gilani added.
The Prime Minister said that the public is angry only because of the energy crisis Pakistan is embroiled in. Blaming that previous regime for the energy crisis, Gilani said that his government added 3,600 MW to the national grid.
Gilani lashed out at Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, saying that his provincial government failed to add even a single megawatt to the national electricity grid.
