KARACHI:
The leaders of trade unions of Pakistan Railways suggested ways for making the railways profitable and covering its losses. They demanded restructuring of the management, provision of funds for buying and repairing locomotives and earning revenue via transporting cargo throughout the country.
According to the trade union leaders, political interference in the affairs of railways, lack of accountability and bureaucratic corruption were the major factors for the decline of the railways.
To make it churn out profits again, they suggested proper utilisation of the railway’s assets.
They were talking at a national consultation on the problems, planning and strategies of Pakistan Railways, organised by Planning Commission and Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research (PILER) on Friday.
